Rachel Morningstar Hoffman-Gregorious, Beautiful, Beloved, Daughter- Dead.

24 Jan

Have you guys seen this story? Its so devastating! Dateline covered it recently- you can watch it here.

She was busted w/pot, an amount that would be a misdemeanor in any other state, but in Florida it was a felony. That is just the beginning of the tragedy.
A young woman was thrust into a drug community as a confidential informant when she wasn’t really part of that “drug” community. She was murdered while on a mission for and supposedly under the “supervision” of the Tallahassee police department.

TAKE ACTION: In her memory, Rachel’s mother has established the Morningstar Foundation, the goal of which is to pass a law requiring legal advice to be sought before a civilian can consent to undercover work. Please make a generous donation to the Morningstar Foundation today.

Seeds Of Marijuana Prohibition First Sowed 171 Years Ago

I went to FSU, was rumored to have bought and smoked much pot from my friends…there but for the grace of GOD… Anyway, that was many moons ago and apparently I need to have a little meeting w/myself about over sharing. But still, sad, sad story, and here’s a sad song.

I just don’t think pot should be illegal– or they should at least de-criminalize it for personal use. Milton Friedman and over 500 economists agree w/me and signed a letter to government officials outlining their case. Here’s an excerpt from the letter:

We, the undersigned, call your attention to the attached report by Professor Jeffrey A. Miron, The Budgetary Implications of Marijuana Prohibition. The report shows that marijuana legalization — replacing prohibition with a system of taxation and regulation — would save $7.7 billion per year in state and federal expenditures on prohibition enforcement and produce tax revenues of at least $2.4 billion annually if marijuana were taxed like most consumer goods.

And now for a laugh and some love advice…handle w/care.

PUHLEEEZZE! When you hear the WHOLE story you will hear that this girl did everything contrary to what she was told to do and that’s why she ended up DEAD. They told her NOT to go to the new location; they told her to abort the mission—she went anyway and now her parents have to mourn. It IS sad but what’s sadder is that she could have changed the entire outcome by just doing as she was instructed. maybe she shouldn’t have smoked that last joint before going on the sting; maybe then her head would have been clearer.

Wow, so harsh! I think actually that whatever Rachel did is beside the point. The police should NOT have put her in that situation!

That was a deal outside the realm of their knowledge and capabilities much less Rachel’s. Those two criminals were violent and I think their only intention was to get that $13,000. They were armed and may have accomplished that no matter what happened. That level of undercover work is extremely dangerous even for trained professionals and Rachel should not have been asked to do it. I’d be interested to hear the whole story though, how do you know it?
